ticket office opera house, Graz (modified)

the design concept for the box office of the graz opera house (implemented in 1999) turned the relationship between the audience and the stage upside down, paralleling konrad bayer’s play die begabten zuschauer (1959): the box office represents the ‘stage’, which the visitor enters under a spotlight, thus becoming a central character, an actor. they collect their tickets from the box office staff, who are sitting in a ‘loge’ behind a desk clad in red velvet.
